A hybrid sole? let us tell you more.
Sometimes the terrain will force you to push or carry your mountain bike. We've therefore come up with a hybrid sole inspired by trail running (for grip on the ground) and mountain biking (for grip on the pedals) to keep you comfortable and supported whether walking or cycling. Its heel stiffener and flex grooves keep you comfortable when walking. And its multidirectional lugs drain water and mud whether going uphill or downhill, walking or cycling
Upper and tongue designed for comfort
Why should a pair of mountain bike shoes be less comfortable than a pair of trainers? As well as the stretchy fabric and special shape on the inside, it has a 3D mesh top, sides and tongue. The fabric is great at wicking perspiration and being comfortable. The heel is also lined with foam. The ROCKRIDER team has made a design choice to put comfort at the heart of its tests and decisions, with no compromises.
Tidy laces
The team has decided to add a small, elasticated tongue to the middle of the laces so that you can keep them tidy and stop them from touching the bike's chain. Smart, eh?
Toe box
The ST 100 shoes have a reinforced toe box: a blend of PU and PES placed in areas that are likely to be struck by stones or bash against rocks.
Choosing your shoe size
You can use our size guide (higher up near the sizing section) to choose your shoe size according to the length and width of your feet. For slightly wider feet, consider getting one size bigger than normal.
What about cleats? find out more
When you start mountain biking, clipless pedals aren't necessarily your priority. This is why these shoes grip the pedals well, even without cleats. And if you want to take the plunge, the sole has a rigid section for fixing cleats without having to adjust everything!Easily attach your SPD cleats thanks to the 2 holes (usually 4) and a reference guide engraved into the surface of the sole.
Which pedals are compatible?
Which cleats and/or pedals can you use with your shoes? For the best fit, use the following models:-BTWIN SPD DUAL 500-BTWIN SPD CLIPLESS 100-BTWIN SPD CLIPLESS 520-SHIMANO SPD DUAL M324-SHIMANO SPD CLIPLESS M520-SHIMANO SPD CLIPLESS XT-M780Compatibility with ENDURO / FREERIDE clipless platform pedals is not guaranteed (e.g. B'Twin SPD Clipless 540, Shimano SPD Clipless Enduro XT-M8020, Shimano SPD Clipless M424). For these pedals, you will need to try them first.
The story behind the st 100 mtb shoes
Here's something we noticed: when you start mountain biking, you spend some time on your bike but some next to it.To give you a shoe that is equally comfortable for walking and cycling, our four-person team spent two years designing, prototyping, and performing lab and field tests with 50 different people. The result is a shoe that gives you grip when walking and when riding on mountain bike trails.
Advice from the team
We'll leave you with a few tips from our mountain bike design team:"Even without cleats, these shoes grip the pedal well so you can push off without worrying about slipping and having the pedal whack you in the shin. It's also a chance to try out cleats without breaking the bank. To avoid any nasty falls, tuck the loops of your laces under the elastic band in the middle of the foot!"

Product Reviews
These make great commuter cycling shoes ... I personally don't use cleats but I do have mtb spikey pedals and these are excellent for providing stiff cycling to work shoes ... And gave plenty of foot relief for my 100k cycle ... I had been struggling to find shoes with a stiff enough forefoot ... Took the risk on these and they have been excellent to cycle on ... DOn't look completely ridiculous off the bike. Only warning they are super slippy on wet hard surfaces like cobble, the floors ar work after they have been mopped and walking down wet paved steps ... So far I have only visited the ground once and I was carrying my bike down very wet stone steps. I would recommend them and would happily buy them again
Really nice, practical and functional shoes. Bought those rather than more expensive ones as they combine normal sole with a clips option, are well ventilated, splash proof and good looking. I am very pleased with them.
Bought these summer 2018 for commuting (and popping to the pub/shop on the way home). Cleats haven't worn out yet despite near daily use over 3 years, and I've worn them on long (100k+) rides when my bike with the SPD SL pedals was out of action. Have also toured with them in Europe with no issues whatsoever. If you're looking for a shoe that clips in well and you want to walk in but don't want to break the bank, these are for you.
